Caries: causes and methods of prevention

Acids produced by bacteria that are present in the human oral cavity contribute to the reduction in the amount of minerals (especially calcium salts) needed to maintain the health of the teeth. This is the way caries is formed, an unpleasant disease that many of us have had to face more than once.

Since childhood we have got used to hear, that caries cause caramel sweets, however there is much more quantity of the products, capable to become the reason of this illness. In fact, tooth problems are most often caused by an imbalance of nutrients in the human diet. That’s why prevention and treatment of caries is in our hands!

Two risk factors

Most often, those who suffer from caries, combine two things:

  • Weak digestion
  • Abuse of certain foods

There are people who have only one of the presented risk factors in their lives, and their teeth are healthy. For example, it is often possible to meet a person who consumes a large amount of sugar, but he does not, however, spend long hours in the dentist’s office. It also happens that with a balanced diet, the condition of the teeth leaves much to be desired. In the latter case, there is a weak digestion, although there may not be any visible symptoms.

High acidity

The pH balance in the gastrointestinal tract depends on how we eat, and on how our digestion functions. If the food is balanced, and the stomach is working normally, the saliva contains elements that help fight against microbes. The presence of problems with food or digestion creates in the oral cavity environment, favorable for the reproduction of various bacteria. Microbes, however, are not the main cause of caries.

  • Products that can cause increased acidity
  • Fast food and semi-finished products

Normally, an adult has 32 teeth. Each tooth corresponds to one vertebra, and each vertebra is associated with a specific organ or gland. Consequently, if a tooth is damaged by caries, it is a signal that the work of one of the organs is broken. Fangs, for example, are associated with the liver and gallbladder.
